Soaring Spirit Artworks
Raku Pottery
Welcome to page one of our Raku Pottery

My name is Deborah Kane. My roomie, Paul Turpin, and I have collaborated on the pottery for about 10 years now. I think we make a pretty good team. He loves to play in the mud but doesn’t have much patience for the glazing part so he does all the throwing and I do most of the glazing. I also like to play in the mud but I prefer to hand-build with the clay rather than throw on the wheel. Anything that is not a pot was hand-built. All pots are hand-thrown by Paul on the wheel.

Everybody Out of the Gene Pool!
#301
Size: 6 1/2 x 3 3/4
Price: $60.00

Funny title, I know but when I designed this one I was thinking of life emerging from the teeming waters of creation. It was a bit of a deep subject so I had to give it a humorous title.

Receding Waters
#315
Size: 3 x 4 1/2
Price: $35.00

I love the way this one changes when I look at it. Sometimes the light green on the bottom looks like a sandy shore with the last wave washing away. Other times the dark green seems to come forward and look like it is swelling and molten like lava.

Sit a Spell and Smell the Flowers
#321
Size: to come
Price: $50.00

I love to sit in my meditation garden in the evening. Whether it's after work or after tending the garden, the reward of the labor is in the savoring of the sights, scents and sounds. The cool of the evening wafts up aromas of blossom and earth. Work is done. One can feel at peace and at home. Just breathe and be.

Soaring Among The Stars
#315
Size: 6 1/2 x 3 3/4
Price: $65.00

These figures might be our dreaming selves flying among the stars. Then again, perhaps they are our ancestors reminding us that our spirits are vast, free and unlimited. Either way, this piece fills me with a sense of fun, and maybe a little longing. Can I come play too?

Here's My Heart
#320
Size: to come
Price: $20.00 (factory second, see link below)

This, along with the two above in this column are part of a new design style I have been experimenting with. I draw the entire design with one fluid line and then use glaze colors to define areas of the design.
Factory second - the glaze ran during firing

Look for the Sunny Side of Life
#326
Size: to come
Price: $45.00

On an early spring day when the weather is just beginning to warm up and melt away winter's chill, doesn't it feel fabulous to close your eyes and feel the sun on your face?
This is another design created with one single line.
