Break time!
Yeah, I lend new meaning to
Gone In 60 Seconds!
I DO enjoy my cat naps.
An old tire, a little paint, a lot of elbow grease (ever tried to turn a tire inside out?), and tada! A tulip!
This Tulip never dies!
The deer can't reach it!
the woodpecker tree I planted a dead tree. Well, David and I planted a dead tree. You see, he came up to help me fall it before it fell on my garage and when it came down I thought, this is too dang purrty -- I gotta put it somewhere. So, I planted the top third of it right here. Here is a close up of the woodpecker-riddled wood. You have to admit this is purrty! Nature makes some nice sculptures. The woodpeckers visit it and so do the flickers. close up of woodpecker tree The poles you see on the left are holding it up until it is stable.

This looks like a job for SCOOTER-MAN!

Well folks, the woodpecker tree looks awesome, but it's lonesome. It needs some garden decor around it... maybe a flower bed, and a lattice railing... yes, another project...creative genius at work! The next three pictures show the creation in process.

Whadya think... I am just screwing around???

Last spring (4/2000) I put in this flower bed along the driveway just off the deck (see the woodpecker tree in the background). I lined the bed with aviary wire to keep the moles out.
Deborah (ohterwise known as Rumi) made the fence out of bamboo to keep the deer out and it does a pretty good job. I think the fence, with all the feathers and do-das, makes it look like Indian Burial Grounds !

I zoom around all over the property on my scooter (see it behind me?). Here I am adding the finishing touches on the lattice railing. It keeps Rumi from falling into the driveway while she's pulling weeds.
Here are a few pictures of how this bed looks now. It is amazing how much it filled in for just one year. I put the bench along the driveway so we can sit and look at this display. Nice huh? closeup bed by woodpecker tree , 6/2001
